For installing third-party applications you need two different desktop installer packages:
1. The Desktop Manager software 2.The Handheld Applications installer
The Desktop Manager will not allow third-party applications to
be loaded until the BlackBerry Handheld Applications are installed on the
desktop. So the user must first run the Handheld Applications installer.
The Handheld Applications installer includes the actual "Handheld Code" or "Handheld Software" which
is carrier dependent and can be
downloaded from
your carrier's
website.

This
problem may occur, if your BES administrator has
disabled the option which lets you install third-party
applications on your device. You should contact your
BES administrator. Once your administrator changes this
policy, you should be able to use the application. |

How
can I configure my handheld for Direct TCP connections? |
| |
|
On BlackBerry handhelds version 3.8 or
higher, a direct TCP stack has been included, which
allows a direct TCP connection to be opened from the
BlackBerry handheld, without using the Mobile Data Service.
In order to configure the BlackBerry handheld to
utilize the direct TCP, from the BlackBerry's home
screen select Options -> TCP or Tools ->
TCP and enter the required
information for your wireless carrier, save and then
reboot.
Please note that you will be able to make direct TCP
connections from your handheld only if your wireless
carrier supports such connections and you may also have
to upgrade your rate plan accordingly. |

If your carrier is not listed above, you can obtain the settings from your device as:
1. From your BlackBerry's home screen, select the
Options application. 2. Highlight the entry for
Service Book and open it by pressing the trackwheel.
3. If there is an entry labelled "WAP Transport", highlight the entry, press the trackwheel, and select
View. If there is no "WAP Transport" entry, you will need to contact your mobile operator to obtain your WAP settings.
4. Press the trackwheel and select Show HRT.

The WAP gateway port is the number following the first colon. For example, if the "IP/Ports:" entry is "10.250.250.250:9201:8205", then your WAP gateway IP address is 10.250.250.250, and your WAP gateway port is 9201 |
